WONDER
By: R.J. Palacio
WHEN the new kid August Pullman showed up at Beecher Jr. High people judged him by looks alone. Kids at school didn't except him because he looked different. They even made up a game called Plague. If someone were to touch August ( even by mistake) they had to wash their hands immediately or catch the plague. One student complained to their mom about Auggie so she blogged horrible things about him. She didn't even know him so she lied and made things up. That mom got other parents upset and they blindly joined the "war" against August without any proof of what was being said. Angry parents demanded the principal send him to a different school. Some parents even photo shopped him out of the fifth grade class picture. Things got worse for August before they got better.
Finally the students got to know August, and saw that he was not only a awesome person, but a good friend. He was smart, had a unique sense of humor, and fun to talk to. They realized August had more courage than all of them put together. Auggie's example of bravery gave his classmates the courage to stand by him and show the world how proud they were to know him.
I highly recommend you read this book because it will make you a better person. Its a reminder looks aren't everything. One look at a person or situation does not tell the whole story. Before taking a stand against someone have all the facts. Take time to throw out the rumors, lies and exaggerations to find the truth.
